That being said - there's nothing like just getting the full thing. So if you supplement broadcast with plugins, you could be ok. You can fill most of the gaps that broadcast has with those - you loose sketch and toon and the lions share of physics simulations with Broadcast, but Octane and Arnold both have toon shaders, XP has alot of the sim stuff you might miss from Studio. You can start with broadcast, especially if you're supplementing it with a 3rd party render engine and a robust particle engine like X-particles. The mograph tools are an absolute must, especially for someone who was a 2D motion designer - and those are only available in Broadcast and Studio. Honestly the only 2 versions of C4D worth getting are Broadcast or Studio. The thing is, it's hard to tell which plugin is xpresso based and which plugin is C++/Python based. Plugins that are xpresso based, like mograph cloner lite will work (well thats a bad example, that plugin is specifically designed for C4D lite).
